Production Monitoring Without New Hardware: How Software-Only Solutions Work

6 min read  ·  TaktClock Editorial

The standard objection to production monitoring systems is hardware. IoT sensors, display systems, specialized terminals — the hardware requirement often kills the project before it starts. TaktClock takes a different approach: it runs on the Windows hardware you already have.

The Hardware Assumption Is Wrong

Most production floors already have Windows PCs at operator stations or screens mounted on walls. In many cases, those screens are running idle monitoring software or showing static dashboards. The hardware is there. The software to make it useful isn't.

TaktClock installs on existing Windows machines. The operator uses TaktClock.exe on any PC on the network. The manager dashboard runs on any browser-capable screen connected to the network. No new hardware is required.

How the Architecture Works

One Windows machine runs TaktClock_Server.exe — this is the central data store, API server, and licence validator. It runs continuously in the background. Any PC on the same network runs TaktClock.exe as the client.

The client connects to the server by IP address — entered once on first launch, never again. It fetches configuration, session data, and licence status from the server over TCP port 5000. All data lives in SQLite databases on the server machine. No cloud. No external dependency beyond licence validation at startup.

What This Means for Deployment

There is no hardware procurement process. There is no installation queue. A new deployment is: copy TaktClock.exe to the PC, launch it, enter the server IP. The entire process takes under five minutes per workstation.

For a 50-operator facility, deploying the client to all 50 PCs takes a morning — or less, if TaktClock.exe is placed on a network share and run directly from there. There is no site visit required. No specialist installation. No waiting for hardware to arrive.
